MAKE YOUR OWN WASHING-MACHINE-REPAIRS!
The best way to perform your own washing-machine-repairs is to do the maintenance so it reduces the chances of break down. This starts with keeping the washing-machine clean.
What do you clean? This starts with regularly checking and cleaning the inlet water filters and lint filters. Always check hoses, seals and fittings for leaks, and repair. Also ensure machines are properly levelled. Clothes can also be a problem and distributing clothes will prevent violent drum imbalance vibration.
SAFETY WARNING
Never attempt to repair or troubleshoot your home-appliances unless the electrical power is switched off and the plug removed. This site or myself cannot accept any responsibility for injury or death following any attempt to follow the advice given within this website.
If you are in any way unsure of your ability to follow the advice then call a qualified electrician or service person. Unplug or electrically isolate the appliance before checking any part of the wiring, or opening the protective covers
Washing-machine-repairs - The machine will not operate?
1. The very first step is to check that the electrical power is on, and the front panel indicator light will indicate this.
2. The second step is to check that the inlet water faucets or taps are on. If they are not then open them and try again.
3. Check that you have selected the wash program correctly. Sometimes you might try rotating the program selector dials if these are on your model to check they are not sticking.
4. Check that the front door or lid interlock switches are operating. If they are not, the machine will not start. It is a very common cause of non-operation, and simply opening and closing the door will usually clear the problem if it is just intermittent sticking.
Washing-machine-repairs -The washing-machine appears to start but no water is coming in?
1. If you hear the solenoid click and little to no water start flowing the inline water filter may be clogged and require cleaning. Turn off the faucet, remove the inlet line and remove and clean the filter.
2. If you do not hear the solenoid click the solenoid water inlet valve may be faulty or jammed
3. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty and inlet valve does not open as it does not receive a signal.

Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine fills with water but does not start the washing cycle
1. The water level sensor or float switch may be faulty. If the unit does not sense that the water is at the right level nothing will happen.
2. When the water filling rate appears very slow, the inlet water filters may be clogged. Although not that common the inlet solenoid valve can jam and only partially lift.
3. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty
Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine overfills with water
Take care if there is a lot of water spilling over the floor. Unplug your washing machine before attempting any repairs or inspections, and clean up.
1. The water level sensor or switch is faulty
2. The water inlet solenoid valve is stuck in the open position.
Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine will not agitate or the drum will not rotate
1. The door or lid interlock switch is sticking. Operate the lid a few times and see if that clears the problems
2. The water level has not reached the setting required
3. The water temperature has not reached the setting required
4. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty
5. The electric drive motor may be defective or reversing switch may be defective
6. The clutch where installed may be defective or worn
7. The drum belt or coupling may be defective.
Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine will not reach the temperature setting or is too hot
1. If there is no heating at all the internal heating element may have failed. Some elements simply fail, some will cause a short circuit and trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse.
2. If the washer has a hot water fill line check that water is flowing and line is not blocked
3. The temperature control thermostat may be faulty
4. If the water is too hot and is over required temperature this usually a faulty thermostat.
5. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty
Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine will not advance or advances slowly through the wash program
1. The water temperature is slow at coming up to the set point. This is due to faulty heater thermostats.
2. The water filling rate is slow due to blocked inlet water filters. The drain valve also may be partially open causing water leakage. The solenoid valve often has a humming noise when in this condition
3. The water drain rate between cycle steps is slow due to slow draining. This may be due to the valve being jammed with debris.
4. The water pump may be defective or be jammed with debris or clothing items (most popular items are socks, pantihose and fine underwear)
5. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty
Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine will not drain
1. The lint filter on the pump inlet or suction may be clogged. Remove and clean. When you do this you should be ready to clean up a lot of water spillage on the floor.
2. The water pump may be defective or be jammed with debris or clothing items (most popular items are socks, pantihose and fine underwear)
3. The drain valve may be seized.
4. The drain line may clogged.
5. The pump impeller may be broken or faulty.
6. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty
Washing-machine-repairs - The washing-machine will not spin
1. If you can hear the motor turning then the drive belt is slipping or broken, or where fitted clutch and couplings maybe broken. In some cases the pulley may be seized up. Where a motor AC variable speed drive is installed this may be faulty.
2. The drive motor will not shift to high speed or the motor windings may have a defect.
3. Some machines have a clutch and this may be worn. Where installed the transmission may be defective
4. The cycle timer or program circuit board may be faulty
The washing-machine vibrates and makes a lot of noise during the spin
1. The clothes are unbalanced and need redistribution
