There are so many wonderful portable kitchen aids available to help make those hard tasks easy and increase your comfort.
In many cases you cannot do a lot once they start malfunctioning or when they break down. However some you can find it economical to repair such as a toaster However in most cases the equipment life can be significantly extended by carrying out some basic maintenance and care.
My first young experiences with electricity happened when I stuck a knife into a live toaster to retrieve some bread and shorted out the element. Result - patenst very unhappy as it was a new toaster.
I was fortunate that the knife was an insulated bone handled type. After some severe punishment from my parents, it did start me off into a career with electricity that includes small household appliances. In many cases the portable small household appliances and kitchen aids are not easily repairable. Kitchen aids such as toasters may have an element fail, the same applies for hot water tea-kettles and slow cookers. Most small kitchen-aids consist of basic electrical components.
There are two basic groups of small household appliances. The first either has a heating element, control switches and thermostats.
The thermostat has a bi-metallic strip that bends and when the set temperature is reached the circuit breaks cutting off the electricity and stopping the heating.
As the equipment cools the bi-metallic strip cools, straightens and makes the circuit close again.
The second group has an electric motor and rotating blades and other attachments. Motors do not have a continuous rating and must not be run excessively or overloaded. They must also have cooling air circulating to keep them cool.

Food Processors and Mixers, Blenders, Juicers and Liquidizers So many useful devices and kitchen-aids to make kitchen life that much easier. You can make them last a long tine if you look after them and can repair some of the basic faults in small household appliances.
Slow Cookers are very reliable and economical small appliances, having no moving parts and using only a small amount of electricity.
