The most common difficulties with an ice makers is that has ceased to make ice. Of course the first thing to check out is whether it is actually switched on. There area variety of switches, some have an actual switch and others have a coat hanger style assembly. If it is the raised or up position then the ice maker is switched off. For these type of ice makers you simply lower this down to activate the system. Next you need to check the freezer temperature which should be in the range of 0 to 8 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature is warmer than 10 to 12 degrees, then you will not get ice production. The two most common cause are leaking door seals on older machines or a faulty thermostat. If the ice maker is not producing ice properly with only a few ice cubes or the cubes are undersized this is usually indicative of water supply shortage. The shortage can usually be traced to clogged water inlet line filter or a faulty inlet water valve. To check the water line and filter you need to isolate the line at the valve. Remove the water line from the refrigerator and then place into a bucket. Turn on the water supply valve briefly to flush out any debris. Check the inlet water filter as well and clean, some machines even tell you to do this after a certain period. If this all check out okay then the water inlet valve may be faulty. If you have a water dispensing problem or an ice dispensing problem then you need to look at a few things. The whole system comprises several parts. They range from having a jammed ice chute to a jammed crusher unit. Sometimes the water tubing may be faulty so check the system visually and if you can’t work it out you will need a technician. |
