Kenmore Front Load Washer Problem

by john
(essex county, nj)

I have a kenmore 417 series front load coin op washing machine that starting leaking through the drain hose mid cycle. i turned it off, and in the process of swapping the drain hose, the machine emptied itself of all water. Now, when i plug it in, its trying to start mid cycle, there's no water in the machine and i heard an electrical "pop" come from underneath the machine, toward the front (the from lower cover is off). Do i need water in the machine, is there a way to reset this type of machine, does anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you in advance for your time.
