Kenmore Dryer model 110.666425000

Turned on dryer and nothing seemed to happen....several minutes later went back to try turning it on again...the top and over the door were fire hot...heating element went nuts but the drum didn't turn, had to unplug to shut it down. Removing the back,found the heating element had burned through...purchased a new thermostat but failed to keep the old one, and the supplied diagram didn't give very good instructions. Now I have no idea how to reconnect all the wires...also...why didn't the drum turn?
