kenmore dishwasher,

I have a kenmore dishwasher, Model #665.1702 serial# fs0903244. It will not start a wash cycle. It will drain but nothing else. when I try to start it the clean light flashes. under trouble shooting in my book it says the heating element needs replacing. i did that but it still does the same thing. does anyone know what the problem might be?
