Kenmore Air Conditioning Repair – How to save money!

Kenmore Air Conditioning Repair - How does an Air Conditioner work?

To save money on air-conditioning-repair you need to know how it works.

The air conditioner is one of the homes most valuable appliances. It is also one of the misunderstood and overworked of all appliances.

Many think of a air conditioner as something that cools down everything, however actually it is all about heat transfer.

It transfers heat of the material and air inside to leave only the cold, and cold therefore is the absence of heat.

Refrigeration uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat.

You know how cool you feel when you splash water on your face on a hot day and it cools you as the water evaporates, same principle!

A refrigerant is used to remove the heat. A refrigerant is converted to a gas and back into a liquid. What happens is the following

1. You set the thermostat setting to the required temperature

2. When the air conditioner is switched on, and the thermostat switches on as temperature is too high, the compressor starts to run and compresses the refrigerant gas. This raises both the pressure and temperature and the serpentine heat exchanging piping coils at the back of the air conditioner cools this gas or condenses it so that it becomes liquid as it cools down.

3. The liquid refrigerant flows through an expansion valve and this changes the pressure from high pressure to low pressure so that it expands and evaporates When this happens the internal cooling coils absorb the heat within the refrigeration space and make the space cool.

4. The cycle continues until the temperature set by the thermostat is reached, then the air conditioner compressor cycles on and off as the thermostat detects that temperature is too high or too low and operates compressor to maintain it.

How to choose a Kenmore Air Conditioner or any other Brand

There are many air conditioners to choose from however they are manufactured by only a relative few companies, and often very similar models are sold under different brand names. The big and well known manufacturers include Kenmore, Carrier, LG and others

Kenmore Air Conditioning Repair - The Air Conditioner Front Coil is Freezing up

If the coil partially freezes up is probably caused by low refrigerant and you will need to call the service technician to recharge it

If the coil partially freezes up completely then the most likely causes include the following

1. Area Too Large for Air Conditioner Capacity. This is common problem in hot summers. The air conditioner may not be able to cool the area and is under rated. The refrigeration compressor in the unit runs all the time and the evaporator temperature drops below freezing and then freezes up.

2. A very common fault that you check and fix is the filters. If they are blocked then the air flow passing over the evaporator coil will be restricted

3. The Ambient Temperature is Low. Check to see if your inside temperature is below around 75 degrees. Check to see if your thermostat is turned up very high so that the compressor is not cycling off. This will cause freezing. Save money on Air-Conditioning-repair 4. The Outside Temperature is Low. If the outdoors temperature is lower than 75 degrees and the thermostat is set too high the AC compressor may not be cycling off causing the freezing up.

5. The Thermostat is Faulty. Compressors shouldn’t run continuously and need to cycle of every so often to prevent icing and freezing up. Once the evaporator temperature drops lower than freezing point of 32 degrees then freezing up will occur. Save money on Kenmore Air Conditioning repair
