Kenmore 90 series Gas Dryer Door Switch

Could someone tell me how to repair the door switch on a Kenmore 90 series Gas dryer? I am a widow with limited income and cannot call appliance repair for a $3.00 part and a $65.00 service call. The door is not staying shut and the switch receiver on the door is jiggling. Would I have to shut off the gas to repair this? I am thinking in should just jimmy out and the new one be stuck back in? does this sould right? I cannot imagine it being any harder than that. Also, to turn off gas do you call the gas company? Thanks. sorry not informed but I am learning to be self-sufficient.
