Dryer machine in Spain

by Herbert Villagomez
(Madrid, spain)

I recently moved to Spain with my american Dryer and the power here is 220v, the same as in UE but nobody understand why the plug is so big and why has four wires. 1 is red, 1 is black, 1 is white and 1 is green. That part everyone understand but here you have only three. 1 es hot, 1 is negative and 1 is ground. How do I connect these wires to make it work? Is american three phase compare with 1 Phase here? Please, explain

US dryier connection
by: Anonymous

In the US, two of the wires are hot (120 V AC), one neutral, and one ground. Each leg of hot is alternating current but the combination is still one phase and additive therefore adding up to 240 V AC). Therefore black and red wires are tied to hot, one on each leg of incoming power, white neutral, and green ground.

Our typical power hookup for homes from the utility is the same - 4 wires - 2 hots, one neutral, and ground. Note that your drier element if US is for 240 Volts Alternating Current and not a higher current. It would be best to consult your local, knowlegable electrican before proceeding.
