clothes washer won't spin

by Ryan
(Worcester, MA)

My clothes washer won't start to drain the water and drain process, it goes through the washing and swishing of the clothes, but it doesn't go through the rinse or spin cycle. I have done some looking around and concluded that the reason it wasn't doing that is when the door closes, there is a part that comes from the door through a hole in the washing machine that touches a little piece that tells the washer that the door is closed. This piece broke off, I found it at the bottom of the washer load. Now I must try and repair this, and I don't know where to begin, all I need to do is get my washer to think that the door is closed so it can finish the full cycle. Are there any easy wasy to do this?
