Do not overload or run your grinder excessively unless it is a heavy duty model. The electric motor will overheat and possibly burn out, so use the grinder and then allow a few minutes to cool down. In a coffee shop the machine only runs long enough to make enough grounds to make the next cup, so follow that principle.

A good hint that I was given was to sometimes use rice to clean out the machine. The rice will help clean the cutting mechanism out and will also help to sharpen the grinding blades.

Fixing coffee grinders requires careful disassembling and checking of all the components as well as cleaning it. If you have to disassemble your coffee grinder make sure you unplug the grinder from the wall socket first.

You can usually access the electric motor through the grinder base. The blade will be fastened to the shaft and can be removed for replacement.

The coffee grinder blades will require regular replacement depending on the amount of use. The motors are rated for relatively short periods of operation, and overloading can overheat and burn them out as advised earlier.
