I grew up with a Sears Kenmore Washer Dryer Combination. Model # 110.6709701. I still have the owners manual. All i ever hear about is the Bendix,Maytag,GE,Combos. The Kenmore Combo was far more interesting to me .It had a water balanced spin , a Roto-Spray wash stream and had a gas powered dryer. No condensing that i hear so much about from other makers.Trying to find stories or info on these units is like pulling teeth. Our Combo was very reliable for my parents. It was heavily used, and i can only recall my mom saying it needed service about once prior, before nearing the end of it's useful service life. It lasted from early 1970 until December 1980 when the bearing and shifter were wearing out. The surviving repair receipt i have from the Sears tech said there may also be other problems. My parents then bought a new Dual Action washer & dryer set.I don't think i ever got over that Combo being hauled away.A comforting piece of my childhood and entertainment gone forever. As an adult i bought an LG WM0642HW especially for the forced water recirculation spray that was advertised in showrooms, but would you believe that i didn't find out the Forced Water Recirculation was discontinued until after the washer was delivered.LG didn't even change model number or anything to indicate it was no longer being installed on the WM0642HW.I was so hoping to recapture the wash action of the Combos Roto-Spray.No such luck, I have this LG that plops laundry around in cups of water you can't even see. It's terrible and i'm stuck with it for now.I do wish Sears or some other manufacturer would develop a rear controls front loader with a timer dial, tub light, strong Roto-Spray wash stream. Todays washers shouldnt have to operate so long to wash a load of clothes. Either put, or pump water onto the laundry in the cylinder so that we can speed up this wash cycle. The Combo did a Super Wash and three rinses and proceeded into the dry cycle in less time than my current LG takes to wash a load of clothing and i often have to rewash them as well because they are not rinsed well, or something that indicates to me that i shouldn't put them into the dryer yet.I don't want all of these tumbling styles that are currently comming to market with all the electronics to go bad and are a fortune to fix.I just want a front load washer with simple timer dial controls, that will fill with a reasonable puddle of water or better yet a forceful Roto-Spray so my clothing is saturated with my expensive detergent and three rinses through a filtered Roto-Spray water stream. Why manfacturers won't do that i just don't know?
